Visualisation helps increase the acceptance of future offshore wind plants

In some coastal regions, offshore wind turbines dominate the view of the sea. In principle, residents and tourists are more likely to accept the facilities if they blend harmoniously into the landscape. In particular, interactive and lifelike presentations of the planned facilities can help to reduce reservations and concerns in advance.

Researchers at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), the Technical University Munich (TUM) and the ETH Zurich have investigated what these forms of presentation can look like. For this purpose, they used a unique visualization dome, which was developed by ETH Zürich. The project report is now available.

The project was funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It was also actively supported by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Tourism Association, the WindEnergy Network and the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD in Rostock.
