The German Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) has approved the research project “Lidar Complex” providing funding for three years. The project deals with the development of Lidar technology in mountainous, complex terrain. In addition to three Lidar systems owned by the Stuttgart Chair of Wind Energy (USTUTT) and the Institute for Meteorology (KIT) two wind measuring masts and two different unmanned aerial systems will be used in the measuring campaign. Specifically, these systems are helicopters of the Institute of Aircraft Design of Stuttgart University and an aeroplane owned by the Centre for Applied Geoscience at the University of Tübingen. The Institute of Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics (USTUTT) uses CFD calculations to analyse the flow structure of the complex terrain.
